Arkansas Department of Education implements Single Sign-On (SSO) for Educational Information Systems

Arkansas Department of Education implements Single Sign-On (SSO) for Educational Information Systems

The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) in partnership with the Department of Information Systems (DIS) launched Arkansas Single Sign-On (SSO) system for state-provided educational applications effective January 7, 2014. The SSO project consisted of consolidating systems that store usernames/passwords into one as well as building a portal that will act as a “Launchpad” for accessing state-provided web based educational applications. The system is a web-based portal.

The first phase of SSO system will cover applications like Arkansas StudentGPS Dashboards and ADE Data Center Tools. IBM Cognos and eSchoolPlus systems will follow-on in phase 2 part of SSO implementation.

The SSO portal includes user administration, self-password reset and other functionality to ensure accounts could be created and managed from one location.  Initially, the system would allow school district users to more easily access state-provided resources from one portal.   Eventually, the system should also allow district-approved “access managers” to more easily manage user accounts and their permissions/roles.
