Arkansas Course Code Numbering System

First Digit or First Two Digits

Level or Requirement - First Digit is the area of the standards being met and not necessarily the grade level of the school.

1 = Preschool - Early Childhood
2 = Kindergarten - Grade 4
3 = Grades 5-8
4 = Grades 9-12 Required to meet 38 Units in standards
5 = Grades 9-12 May be used to meet State Graduation Requirements
6 = Grades 9-12 Local academic credit only and may be used to meet LEA graduation requirements beyond state requirements.
97 = Specialist and special instructional programs (not courses) ADE curriculum approval is not required
99 = Non Academic activities and assignments ACADEMIC CREDIT IS NOT ALLOWED and ADE approval is not required

Second & Third Digit if First Digit is 1-6

Second & Third Digit is the low and high age if Level 1, low and high grade if Level 2 or 3, and subject area if Level 4.

The sixth digit is a 0 unless the school has a need to use another number or letter for scheduling purposes.
